Boon After Dark

Boon After Dark is a free illuminated temporary sculpture event that takes place in the city centre of Hamilton, New Zealand.

Paul Bradley was the Project Manager and Art Director for Boon After Dark 2022, delivered for Boon Arts, Hamilton Central Business Association, Hamilton Council, and a raft of corporate supporters.

This event attracted people into central urban spaces in the colder winter evenings - a time of year when the city is typically fairly quiet. This proved to be hugely popular as people were drawn in by the beauty and wonder of the light sculptures. This activation supported local businesses, created safer spaces through more people being around, and created a fun, family friendly activity for Hamiltonians and visitors alike.

Garden Place, the civic centre of Hamilton, hosted the ambitious light installation ‘Phonic Light Bridge’ by Phoenix de Vere. The popular interactive ‘UV Spaghetti’ by Angus Muir was installed at the nearby Victoria on the River park.
